Standing lights actuation function sequence
Turning the rotary light switch (S1) to the standing lights position request actuation of the standing lights.
The status of the rotary light switch is read in by the upper control panel control unit (N72/1) via the instrument panel LIN (LIN 1) and made available on the interior CAN (CAN B).
The front SAM control unit (N10) reads this in and transmits the "Switch on standing lights" request via the interior CAN to the rear SAM control unit (N10/8).
The front SAM control unit actuates the following components directly:
- Left standing and parking lights (E1e3) (model 164)
- Right standing and parking lights (E2e3) (model 164)
- Left standing and parking lights (E6/13) (model 251)
- Right standing and parking lights (E6/14) (model 251)
- Additional with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version:
- Left side marker lamp (E1e6) (model 164)
- Right side marker lamp (E2e6) (model 164)
- Left front side marker lamp (United States Of America) (E6/1) (model 251)
- Right front side marker lamp (United States Of America) (E6/2) (model 251)
The rear SAM control unit actuates the following components directly:
- Model 164 without code (849) Spare tire holder/spare tire:
- Left taillight and rear fog light (E3e2) (model 164.1)
- Right taillight and rear fog light (E4e2) (model 164.1)
(each pulsed at P = 5 W)
- Left brake light (E3e4) (model 164.8)
- Right brake light (E4e4) (model 164.8)
(each pulsed at P = 5 W)
- Left taillight, side marker lamp, parking light (E3e8)
- Right taillight, side marker lamp, parking light (E4e8)
(each pulsed at P = 5 W)
- Left rear-end door license plate lamp (E19/3)
- Right rear-end door license plate lamp (E19/4)
- Model 164 with code (849) Spare tire holder/spare tire:
- Left taillight, side marker lamp, parking light
- Right taillight, side marker lamp, parking light
(each pulsed at P = 5 W)
- Left brake light and taillight (E3/5e4)
- Right brake light and taillight (E4/5e4)
(each pulsed at P = 5 W)
- License plate lamp, left spare tire carrier (E19/5)
- License plate lamp, right spare tire carrier (E19/6)
- Model 251:
- Left brake light, taillight, parking light, and side marker lamp (E3e9)
- Right brake light, taillight, parking light and side marker lamp (E4e9)
(each pulsed at P = 5 W)
- Left rear-end door license plate lamp
- Right rear-end door license plate lamp
- Illumination on trailer with code (550) Trailer hitch via:
- Trailer hitch socket, 13-pin (X58) (without code (460) Canada version or without code (494) USA version)
- Trailer hitch socket, 7-pin (X58/11) (with code (460) Canada version or code (494) USA version)
The front SAM control unit transmits the "Standing light actuation active" status via the interior CAN to the upper control panel control unit.
The upper control panel control unit then actuates the standing lights indicator lamp (S1e3) in the rotary light switch via the instrument panel LIN.
Additional function requirements for lights on reminder
^ Standing lights ON
^ Driver door OPEN
^ Transmitter key (A8/1) removed
Lights on reminder function sequence
The logic for actuating the lights on reminder function is stored in the front SAM control unit.
The status of the standing lights actuation is generated by the front SAM control unit itself. The rear SAM control unit places the status of the driver door and the EIS [EZS] control unit (N73) places the circuit status of circuit 15 on the interior CAN.
The front SAM control unit receives this information and from it generates the request for output of the lights on reminder function and transmits this to the instrument cluster via the interior CAN (A1). As a result of this the instrument cluster actuates the warning buzzer (A1h1) for acoustic output of the lights on reminder. The message "Switch off lights" appears in the multifunction display (A1p13) of the instrument cluster.
The standing lights may be switched on because the low beams have been manually switched on, because of the auto on/off headlamps, the daytime running lights or manually via the rotary light switch.
If the standing lights have been activated by manually switching on the low beams, the auto on/off headlamps or the daytime running lights and the driver door is then opened with a transmitter key in the EIS [EZS] control unit, the standing lights are switched off. If the transmitter key is removed from the EIS [EZS] control unit when the rear fog light actuation is active, and then the driver do is opened, the instrument cluster actuates the warning buzzer and issues a corresponding message on the multifunction display. The request to deactivate rear fog light actuation via the rotary light switch prevents the rear fog light actuation from being activated automatically the next time the vehicle is driven with the low beams switched on.
Parking lights actuation function sequence
By turning the rotary light switch to the "Left parking lights" position or the "Right parking lights" position, the parking lights actuation is requested for the corresponding side of the vehicle.
The upper control panel control unit reads in the status of the rotary light switch via the instrument panel LIN and transmits the switch-on request via the interior CAN to the front SAM control unit and the rear SAM control unit.
