Washing windshield, general
The windshield is kept clean by washing the windshield.
The windshield wash function consists of the following subfunctions:
^ Washing function sequence
^ Afterwiping function sequence
^ Function sequence for interrupting washing during engine start
Washing function sequence
The washing function is activated by pressing the combination switch (S4) down beyond the catch point.
The position of the combination switch is read in by the steering column tube module (N80) and transmitted to the engine compartment CAN. The central gateway control unit (N93) routes the signals to the interior CAN.
The front SAM control unit (N10) actuates the window washer fluid pump (M5/1) correspondingly.
During the wash cycle, wiping takes place at the wiper speed set using the combination switch. When the combination switch is in the rest position, wiping takes place at stage "3".
Windshield washing is interrupted by the wipe-stop function or when a "stuck switch" is recognized after t = 15 s
Afterwiping function sequence
Afterwiping becomes active as soon as the combination switch is no longer activated. The number of after wipe cycles depends on the operation time of the combination switch.
- Actuation time t < 1 s:
A single after wipe occurs.
- Actuation time t > 1 s:
Three afterwipes occur.
An active after wipe is notified to the rain/light sensor (B38/2). Consequently, no wiping requests of the rain/light sensor are made during afterwiping.
Afterwiping is carried out at the wiper speed set at the combination switch. When the combination switch is in the rest position, afterwiping takes place at stage "3".
Function sequence for interrupting washing during engine start
When starting the engine the window washer fluid pump actuation is blocked by the front SAM control unit.
Any wiping procedure already started is terminated.
The motor start is recognized by connecting c. 50 from the EIS control unit (N73) to the front SAM control unit.
