PURPOSE
The air conditioning (A/C) system supplies cooled and dehumidified air for cooling the interior of the vehicle. The system operates with outside air and recirculated air cooling. The heating system provides heated air to the interior of the vehicle.
OPERATION
The refrigerant compressor driven by the engine sucks up the heated gasous refrigerant for delivery to the condenser. The head wind flows through the condenser located in the front of radiator and cools the refrigerant vapor which has been additionally heated and put under high pressure until it is fluid. The fluid refrigerant then flows to the receiver drier. From the receiver drier the refrigerant flows to the expansion valve. The metering valve in the expansion valve changes the high pressure fluid refrigerant into a low pressure fluid that flows into the evaporator where the fluid changes to a vapor. The required vaporizing heat is taken from the air flowing through the evaporator cooling the air. The vaporized refrigerant is sucked up by the compressor starting the cycle over.
Temperature regulation, quantity, and distribution of of cooled and heated air is adjusted manually via switches and temperature dial located in center console.
The interior temperature is controlled by:
- Airflow directed through the heating and a/c housing.
- The heater valve (volume of hot water through heat exchanger).
- Refrigerant system activation.
