Expansion Valve: Service and Repair

Removal
1. Evacuate a/c system. SEE Heating and Air Conditioning. Procedures
2. Remove cover at right under instrument panel.

Expansion Valve Installed:

Expansion Valve With Cover Removed:

3. Open insulating housing (18) by half.
4. Remove hose and pipe lines on expansion valve (13).
5. Remove expansion valve and close connections with plug.

NOTE: If heavy contamination is visible in expansion valve, replace receiver drier and expansion valve. SEE Receiver Dryer. Receiver Dryer

Installation

Expansion Valve:

1. Moisten threads with cold-flowing oil and check 0-rings (14).
2. Install expansion valve (13) to evaporator pipes.
3. Connect lines (15 and 16) to expansion valve.
4. Evacuate a/c system, refill and check for function and leaks. SEE Heating and Air Conditioning. Procedures SEE Manual (Visual) Function Tests. Manual and Visual Function Test of Automatic Climate Control
5. Attach housing (18) carefully to expansion valve.
6. Install cover under instrument panel.
