Brake System - Cleaning and Flushing Precautions

SUBJECT: BRAKE SYSTEM GENERAL PRECAUTIONS


For cleaning and flushing of the hydraulic brake system, many products are on the market which were neither tested nor approved by us. Use of these products could lead to damage on the brake system.

Effective immediately, use only unused Mercedes-Benz brake fluid for cleaning or flushing the reservoir or hydraulic lines and brake cylinders.

When working on the brake system, use only the following approved products:

- Original Mercedes-Benz brake fluid (Part No. 000 989 07 07 10 or 000 989 07 07 13) for yearly replacement and topping up (see SMS repair instruction 42-010 regarding handling of brake fluid).

- Mercedes-Benz brake pad paste (Part No. 001 989 10 51) for coating the edges of the brake pad backing plate.

To ensure safe operation and prevent corrosion, we request you to use only these factory-approved products (see also M-B Specifications for Service Products page 331.0 or 332).

NOTE: Cleaning of brake system components with alcohol as mentioned in SI MBNA 42/2, November 1983, is no longer valid.
