SUBJECT: ENGINE OIL CONSUMPTION - CHECKING OIL LEVEL ALL MODELS
Extended engine oil change intervals were made possible by technical advancements in engine design, continuous improvements in the quality of engine oils as well as on-going testing of approved engine oils by the factory. However, since engine oil consumption is dependent on such factors as the mechanical condition of the engine, its time in service (new engines-break-in period) and to a large part on the driving conditions, the engine oil has to be checked on a regular basis.

FUEL FILLER DOOR W126:
Upon the receipt of a new vehicle, the customers should be made aware of their responsibility to check the engine oil regularly, as outlined in the owner's manual.
A label for the inside of the fuel filler door, shown as two examples below, should remind the driver, especially the self service driver, to have the engine oil level checked during a fuel stop.
