Fender - Modified Ornamental Molding Attachment

SUBJECT: LOWER ATTACHMENT OF THE FRONT PILLAR

ORNAMENTAL MOLDING

The lower attachment of the front pillar ornamental molding has been modified in production. The ornamental molding and the modified seal are now fastened to the front fender with a two-piece expandable plastic rivet (Figure 1) (previously screwed to the connecting panel, refer to service microfiche number 07 102 2483 03, job number 67-100, coordinate F1).

The front fenders and the connecting panels (Figures 2 and 3) were modified at the same time, the part numbers remain unchanged.
Repair Instructions

In case of repairs, previous and modified fender and connecting panel versions may be combined.

The three installation possibilities are as follows:

FIGURE 2 - MODIFIED FRONT FENDER (WITH TAB):




1. Modified Fender (with tab) and Connecting Panel (b)

Cut off mounting tab (arrow, Figure 2) at dashed line. Apply zinc dust paint to cut edge. Screw ornamental moulding to connecting panel.

2. Modified Fender (with tab) and Connecting Panel (b)

Cut off sheet metal strip from connecting panel (b, Figure 3, arrows). Apply zinc dust paint to cut edge. Attach ornamental moulding to fender with plastic rivet (Figure 1).

3. Previous Fender (without tab) and Connecting Panel (c)

NOTE: Avoid this combination if possible. Previous fenders (without tab) should be used with screwed on ornamental moulding. (i.e. connecting panels a or b).

Cut off mounting tab from damaged fender (of modified version) and weld to new fender (of previous version). Attach ornamental moulding with plastic rivet.

-or -

Attach sheet metal strip (45 x 30 x 1.5 mm) as shown in b, Figure 3 to panel c. Apply zinc dust paint to unprimed surfaces. Screw on ornamental moulding to the connecting panel.
