Radio - Post Warranty Repair Program
REF. NO. MBNA 82/37To: ALL MERCEDES-BENZ PASSENGER CAR DEALERS
DATE: February 1989
SUBJECT:
THE BECKER POST WARRANTY FACTORY
DIRECT RADIO REPAIR PROGRAM
Mercedes-Benz of North America, Inc., has authorized Becker of North America, Inc., to administer a post warranty radio repair program. M-B dealers may submit radios with expired warranties directly to for repair or exchange.
The following outline details this new program:
1. Purpose
1.1 Provide M-B customers with the best possible post warranty radio service at a reasonable cost.
2. Scope and Eligibility
2.1 All out of warranty vehicles equipped with Becker Grand Prix Electronic radios, starting with model year 1981, are eligible for this exchange program.
2.2 The Becker Grand Prix Electronic radios covered include 1981-1982, 1983-1985, 1986-1987 and 1988-to present version chassis and faceplates (Figures 1 though 4).
2.3 Radios produced prior to 1981 may be submitted for repair on an individual basis.
2.4 Scrambled radios will not be serviced unless proper proof of ownership is supplied to by the dealer (see S.I. 82/17 and 82/28). will reject radios with tampered or missing serial numbers or incomplete After Warranty Radio Return Tags (Figure 5), which are supplied by BNA (see section 3.1).
2.5 Radios that scramble during M-B dealer service will be repaired at a preferred price. M-B dealers may make this claim by checking the space provided on the After Warranty Radio Return Tag and then submitting the radio to BNA on an individual basis. If during the course of reprogramming, servicing and testing other unrelated repairs are required, will adjust the price accordingly.
3. Service Procedure
3.1 General
Dealer has option to establish a parts inventory or to order parts as required for each repair. BNA will issue a Core Voucher (core return authorization/credit slip) (Figure 6) with each exchange part ordered outright. If the M-B dealer submits a core part at the time of purchase, he will not be billed for a core and therefore, will not receive a Core Voucher.
To ensure proper administration of this program, will include an After Warranty Radio Return Tag with each exchange part.
3.2 Procedure
- By using the MBNA radio test chart (2329a), M-B dealer will determine which part(s) of the radio (chassis or faceplate) are needed to complete repair and which damage code to use on the Radio Return Tag.
- M-B dealer can draw required part(s) from their stock on bald or will order required part(s) directly from BNA.
- After replacement, M-B dealer may return core(s) along with Core Voucher(s) for core reimbursement. However, most M-B dealers will find it expedient to use their core(s) as credit against their next exchange part(s) purchase. Simply submit core(s) to BNA along with an order for corresponding replacement part(s) and pay only the "with core" price.
- M-B dealer must attach a completed Radio Return Tag to each core part returned to BNA.
- All parts must be shipped in their original cartons.
4. Price
4.1 BNA will supply exchange parts to dealer at the following prices excluding shipping:
Without Core With Core
Chassis = $525 Chassis = $125
Faceplates = $155 Faceplates = $ 55
4.2 Dealer will be reimbursed by BNA when he returns core with Core Voucher.
Chassis core = $400
Faceplate core = $100
All shipping charges will be paid by dealer.
4.3 Radios that scramble during M-B dealer service will be reprogrammed, serviced, and tested for $16.50. BNA will charge for additional service if other unrelated repairs are required.
4.4 BNA will not pay any reimbursement if the core is physically damaged to such an extent that an economic repair is unfeasible. In this case, the core will be returned to dealer.
5. Warranty
5.1 All radio repairs shall be warrantied by BNA for 90 days from date of customer installation but not more than 1 year from date of M-B dealer purchase. This warranty shall cover both parts and labor. Labor expenses will be reimbursed at a flat rate of $24 for chassis replacement and $12 for faceplate replacement.
5.2 Parts replaced under warranty must be returned with the warranty section of the Radio Return Tag completed. Return postage to be paid by dealer.
6. Program Changes
6.1 This radio repair program may be changed and enhanced at any time by both MBNA and BNA subject to prior consent. Changes would be announced to dealers in due time.
