Seats - Backrest Production Change/Concern

SUBJECT: ORTHOPEDIC SEAT BACKREST (HAND PUMP VERSION) MODEL 126 (MODEL YEAR 1981 - 1983)

Since August 1983, an air cushion with a modified hose connection was installed (Figure 2).

On air cushions with the modified connection, the hose can be damaged by the plastic washer (Figure 4) or the spring (Figure 5) and start leaking. If this occurs, proceed as follows:

Procedure

1.. Remove the back panel of the seatback, service microfiche, Body, assembly jobs II (Job 91-167, steps 2-6).

2. Pull air hose from hose connection and cut off the damaged section (Figure 3).

3. Lubricate air hose with soapy water and slip onto hose connection.

4. Carefully cut the plastic washer and remove it (Figure 4).

5. Slide the spring upward and retighten the clips, left and right (Figure 5).

6. Check clearances by placing a load on the front of the backrest. The hose connection must not touch the adjuster shaft or the spring in any position after the inflation element is adjusted (Figure 6).

7. Reinstall back panel of the seatback.
