FIGURE 1 - SPRING COMPRESSOR FOR FRONT AND REAR SPRINGS:
The spring compressors previously used for front and rear suspensions are replaced by one universal spring compressor plus two additional clamping plates.
IMPORTANT! Because of the Powerful spring forces involved, the spring
compressor should be guided through the clamping plates and securely locked in position before attempting to compress a suspension spring. To firmly lock the spring compressor, it has to be turned 90~ (1/4 turn) for the lugs to properly rest in the semi-circular recesses in the center of the clamping plates. For safety reasons, the use of an impact wrench for compressing or releasing a spring is not recommended. Springs are easily removed or installed if a maximum number of coils are fully compressed. The spindle and piston inside the tensioning cylinder should be periodically lubricated with Molykote paste.
Change in application of this universal spring compressor versus the old type.
Front suspension springs, models 116, 123, 126
Guide tensioning cylinder from engine compartment through opening in upper spring mount and through both clamping plates. Using a screwdriver, turn the cylinder 90~ (1/4 turn) to lock it in position.
Rear suspension springs, models 124, 201
To remove the compressed spring, remove the hexagon head bolt between the spring link and rear axle carrier. Lower the spring link. Tighten tile rear spring link mounting only if vehicle rests on its four wheels, or the rear axle shaft is in a horizontal position.
