IMPORTANT INFORMATION
As of August 1, 1983 production, there was a change in the U.S. VIN structure for Mercedes-Benz passenger cars. The 11th digit, which is the assembly plant location code, will now be significant for vehicle identification.
Vehicles produced at the Sindelfingen assembly plant in Germany will have an "A" in the 11th position and the last 6 digits will be numeric starting with 000001. Vehicles produced at the Bremen plant in Germany will have an "F" in the 11th position and the last 6 digits will be numeric also starting with 000001.
Due to simultaneous production at both Sindelfingen and Bremen plants, there may be two cars of the same model with the same last 6 digits. Therefore, the plant code must appear on the registration documents and title for proper vehicle identification.
