Radiator: Service and Repair
Removing and installing radiatorRemoval
Preceding work:
Removing air cleaner.
Draining coolant.
Detach flat springs (1/1) pull off fan cowl (1), place over fan (2), (step 1).
To remove fan (2) runscrew bolt (2/1), (step 2).
Screw in, 25 Nm
Disconnect coolant hose (14 and 15) at radiator, (step 3).
Unscrew bolts (46/1) of air-to-oil cooler, place air-to-oil cooler to the side (step 4).
screw in (nuts need not be counter-held), 10 Nm
Note: Only engine 102.983/990/991
On vehicles with automatic transmission, disconnect transmission oil lines. Pinch off lines with clamp 000 589 51 21 00 (step 5).
Remove retaining clip at bottom of radiator, (step 6).
Remove retaining clips (7/8), and lift out radiator, (step 7).
Installation
Installation is reverse of removal.
Check cooling system for leaks.
Adjust oil level in automatic transmission to correct level.
Note: A coolant hose of modified shape has been installed since 08/86 as a standardization measure with RHD version. Identification: modified part no. on coolant hose.

Removal, installation
1. Remove flat springs (1/1), pull up fan cowl (1) and place over the fan (2).
2. Unscrew collar bolt (2/1), pull fan (2) off the coolant pump shaft and take out together with the fan cowl.
Installation note:
Tightening torque 25 Nm.
3. Detach coolant hoses (14 and 15) at the radiator.

4. Unscrew securing bolts (46/1) of the air-to-oil cooler (nuts do not need to be counter-held) and place air-to-oil cooler to the side.
Installation note:
Tightening torque 10Nm.
5. On vehicles with automatic transmission, unscrew oil cooler lines (8) and retaining clip (8/1) at the bottom of the radiator.
6. Pinch off oil cooler lines with the clamps 000 589 40 37 00.
7. Pull retaining clips (7/8) off the radiator and pull out radiator.
8. Installation is performed in the reverse order.
9. Check cooling system for leaks.
10. Adjust oil level in automatic transmission to correct level.
