Cold Start Valve

NOTE: The following tests are to be performed with the engine cold.
1. Test the cold start system as follows:
a. Check to see that the battery is fully charged.
b. Remove the cold start injector from the manifold, leaving the fuel line connected.
c. Aim the cold start injector into a fuel safe container.
d. Simulate 10 kOhm resistance at the coolant temperature sensor.
e. Disconnect the green wire on the electronic ignition unit.
f. Crank the engine and watch the nozzle of the injector. The fuel should spray in a well atomized cone.
g. Leak test by wiping the end of the injector dry. If any fuel seeps from the injector, replace it.

2. If the injector does not spray:
a. Connect a volt meter to the cold start injector plug.
b. Crank engine until a voltage drop occurs.
1. A minimum voltage of 10 vdc should be seen for approx. 5-10 seconds.
2. If there is no voltage, check continuity of wire from cold start valve plug to fuel pump relay (terminal 87v).
c. Check for voltage while cranking at the fuel pump relay plug.
1. Minimum voltage at terminal 12 (circuit 50) is 10 vdc.
2. Minimum voltage at terminal 2 (circuit TF) is 3.0-5.0 vdc.
d. If the voltages are incorrect, replace the fuel pump relay.
