One Needle Sweep
NOTE: This test requires the use of a "socket box" type testing adapter.
1. Connect multimeter to test adapter sockets 3 and 25, run engine at idle speed aned check for a voltage signal of 2.8 volts AC or greater. If this reading is obtained, the component is good and the test is over. If this reading is not recieved, proceed to step 2.
2. Shut off engine, disconnect the EDS control unit, and measure the resistance between sockets 3 and 20 of the test adapter.
3. For a Bero speed sensor the resistance should be 527 Ohms ±10%. For a VDO speed sensor the reading should be 1900 Ohms ±10%.
NOTE: These values are applicable at 20°C. Therefore an additional 4% increase in value should be added for each 10°C increase in temperature. If the readings are not to specifications, check for and repair any open circuits. If no open circuits are found, check ring gear speed sensor for dirt accumulation, cleaning or replacing as needed.
4. Engine at idle speed, EDS control unit disconnected, measure the voltage between sockets 3 and 20 of test adapter. If the reading is 1.5 volts AC and increases with engine RPM replace the EDS control unit.
