SUBJECT: SUBSEQUENT INSTALLATION OF ANCHOR AND/OR LATCH PLATES FOR TETHER STRAP (TO SECURE CHILD RESTRAINTS ONLY) MODELS 107, 123, 124, 126 AND 201

Please discard your copy of MBNA 91/4a, August 1986. Do not discard the Work Instructions.

To help reduce the risk of injury in collisions or sudden maneuvers, MercedesBenz recommends that all vehicle occupants, especially infants and children, be restrained whenever riding in cars. Since all states and Canadian provinces have laws requiring the use of restraints, you may be approached by customers with certain types of child restraints, having a top tether strap, who require assistance in anchoring these restraints.

Child Restraints are typically designed for children weighing between 18 to 40 pounds and whose height is 40 inches or less. Infant Restraints are typically designed for children weighing 20 pounds or less and whose height is 26 inches or less.

Please make your customers aware that they should use only those restraints that conform to U.S. or Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 213. Compliance with this standard would be indicated cn the label affixed to the restraint, and in the instruction manual provided with the restraint.

Customers should further be reminded to carefully follow the instructions included with their infant/child restraints and be advised that when available, the rear center seating position is the safest position for placement of the restraint.

Please also advise customers, THAT UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES MAY ANY RESTRAINT BE USED IN THE CARGO AREA BEHIND THE DRIVER'S AND PASSENGER'S SEATING POSITIONS IN MODEL 107 VEHICLES, AS THIS LOCATION IS NOT A DESIGNATED SEATING POSITION FURTHER, CUSTOMERS SHOULD BE MADE AWARE THAT INFANT AND CHILD RESTRAINTS ARE INTENDED ONLY FOR USE IN DESIGNATED FORWARD FACING SEATING POSITIONS. THIS PRECLUDES THEIR USE WITH THE OPTIONAL REAR FACING BENCH SEAT IN MODELS 123.193 AND 124.193.
