SUBJECT: PULL-FIXTURE FOR WHEEL ALIGNMENT MODELS 107, 124, 126, 201
A. ATTACHING PULL-FIXTURE
B. TESTING/ADJUSTING CONTROL POINTS AND WHEEL ALIGNMENT WITH PULL-FIXTURE

A pull-fixture for testing/adjusting control points and wheel alignment under simulated load condition is now available. It eliminates the necessity of loading the vehicle trunk with additional weight.. The pull-fixture can be used for the following measurements:

1. Checking and, if required, adjusting of control points on vehicles with leveling control system.
2. Checking toe-in angle change on multi-link independent rear axle, e.g. after replacing suspension parts, or in case of customer complaints.

NOTE: Vehicles with hydra-pneumatic suspension or front and rear axle leveling control system should be checked or adjusted without tile use of a pullfixture.

FIGURE 1:

A. Attaching Pull-Fixture

Attach upper cross beam (040b) at left and right with mounting bolts (040a) in openings (covered with rubber grommets) in the frame side members and secure them (arrows).

Position lower cross beam (040c) with spindle (040d) under lift runways (Figure 1).
NOTE: In the case of a short lift used for the alignment of vehicles with a wheelbase of up to 3100 mm, it may be impossible to fit the pull-fixture due to the openings in the frame side members being obstructed. In those cases the vehicle trunk should instead be loaded with additional weight, as previously done.
B. Testing/Adjusting Control Points and Wheel Alignment with Pull-Fixture

1. Checking and, if required, adjusting of control points on vehicles with leveling control system (with engine stopped).

Using the Pull-fixture, lower the vehicle rear end until a locating pin (4 mm dia.) can be inserted through the leveling valve lever into the housing. Take reading on rear axle measuring device and compare with control point data in the enclosed "Vehicle Level" table from column "Rear Axle-loaded". If measured value differs from table, disengage the connecting rod from the leveling valve lever. Adjust vehicle rear end with pull-fixture to specified control point setting. Adjust the connecting rod to proper length and engage it free of tension. Pull out the locating pin and remove the pull-fixture.

NOTE: When checking the control point following repairs during which the suspension elements were depressurized, repressurize the level control system

With vehicle rear end pulled down and engine running.

2. Checking and, if required, adjusting toe-in angle change of the multi-link independent rear axle. Optical Alignment Equipment

Perform wheel alignment (using alignment device 115 589 18 23 00) with vehicle in curb weight condition. Check, and if required, adjust total toe-in. To check toe-in change, measure and record the toe-in of each wheel.

Release alignment device (115 589 18 23 00) and, using the pull-fixture, pull the vehicle rear end down approximately 60 mm. The pin of the alignment device (115 589 18 23 00) should remain in the locating bore. Lock alignment device (115 589 18 23 00) again. Measure and record the toe-in of each wheel. Determine the toe-in angle change.

Electronic Alignment Equipment

Align vehicle in curb weight condition. Check, and if required, adjust total toe-in. To check the toe-in change, measure and record the toe-in of each wheel. Using the pull-fixture, pull the vehicle rear end down approximately 60 mm. Measure and record the toe-in of each wheel. Determine the toe-in angle change.

If the toe-in angle change exceeds the allowable limits, an eccentric rubber mount must be installed on the tie link (Figures 2 and 3). Use special tool 124 589 02 43 00 and observe correction table. Finally, repeat measurement.

NOTE: On alignment device 115 589 18 23 00, the pin on the rear section (031b) must be checked and, if required, shortened in accordance with the specified dimensions (Figures 4 and 5).
