WIDER RIMS/TIRES AS AN ACCESSORY ITEM
For the conversion to a wider rim/tire combination, a new Mercedes-Benz light alloy rim is available as an accessory item (Figure 1).
The illustration is a list of permissible wider rim/tire combinations and their restrictions
WARNING!
You must observe the following:
^ Correct lug bolts must be used.
^ Use of standard equipment tires, as listed in Owner's Manuals, is not permissible on the wider rims.
^ Tires must meet at least the speed and load rating of the original tire (see Owner's Manual).
^ Tire pressures shown on the fuel filler flap remain valid.
^ Snow chains cannot be used.
^ Only glued-on balancing weights, placed on the inside of the MB light alloy rims should be used.
Failure to follow these instructions may lead to personal injury during tire mounting and or cause tire rim failure!
For the conversion to wider tires/rims, the inner edges of the front fenders must be modified to 60° (Figures 2 and 3).
WARNING!
Modification of front fenders should only be done by qualified body shop personnel.
Improper work could result in:
^ Damage to a tire when coming into contact with an incorrectly flared fender.
^ Hidden paint damage due to cracking or separating from sheet metal.
See illustration for affected vehicles:
On model 201 a spacer must be used on the front fenders. For this purpose, remove screws on side of the bumper. Push bumper downwards and remove the front side screw on the bumper. Place a 6 mm thick washer, part no. 201 990 25 40, at the attachment point and fasten with the longer combination screw B 6.3 x 19B, part no. 914031 006203. The front part of each fender is thus pushed outwards by 6 mm (Figure 4) Part kit no. B6 6 47 0020 contains assembly instructions.
WARNING!
Modification of front fenders should only be done by qualified body shop personnel.
Improper work could result in:
^ Damage to a tire when coming into contact with an improperly spaced fender.
