A. WATER PUMP DRAIN HOSE

A drain tube (F) and hose (G) are installed in the water pump lower vent bore on the following models:
OM 602, 603 as of 12/90
M 102 as of 11/91
M 104.99 (W 140 only) as of 8/91
M 104.98 (R 129, C 124) as of 10/91
M 119 as of 11/91
M 120 as of 4/91
Installation of this drain on M 103 water pumps will enter production soon.

This drain hose will prevent the retention of droplets, moisture or residue at the water pump vent hole.

Note:
Traces of coolant residue or moisture are not considered "leakage." If coolant did not have to be added to the coolant reservoir between service intervals, a water pump replacement is not justified. A small amount of coolant in the groove of the pump seal is required for lubrication of the seal. Coolant droplets forming at the vent hole/drain hose dry, leaving a distinct residue from the high solid matter content of the coolant. This is particularly evident on vehicles used for short distance driving with the engine started and stopped frequently.


A water pump should only be replaced if it is clearly visible that coolant is continuously dripping from the vent hole or from the drain hose on newly built water pumps.

Water pumps returned with a claim of leaking will be checked very thoroughly, and warranty claims may be rejected if a pump is found in acceptable working order.


B. ENGINE 102 WATER PUMP

Effective April 1991 there is a new threaded hole (M14 x 1.5, previously M18 x 1.5) in the water pump housing. The temperature sensor for intake manifold preheater now threads directly into the water pump housing (previously through a reducer).

C. ENGINE 119 SHAFT SEAL SET FOR WATER PUMP


After June 1991 the water pump shaft seal was improved by a modified seal material.

New version shaft seal part no.: 000 201 87 19 (Water pump part no. is not affected by the changed seal).
