Check if work has already been performed. Modified engines are identified by a white paint mark next to the engine number.

Note:
Engines produced after engine end number 001991 are already equipped with a front oil baffle.
Therefore, the internal hex. socket oil pump mounting bolts (4 and 5, Figure 2) and the bolt (3, Figure 1) attaching the support bracket to the oil pump pickup do not need to be removed.
Procedure
1. Drain engine oil.
2. Remove oil pan (see SMS, Engine 603, Mechanical 1, Job No. 01-310A).
3. Remove rear oil baffle.
4. Remove oil pump pickup support bracket (1, Figure 1) by removing the bolts located on the bearing cap bolts (2, Figure 1) and the oil pickup bolt (3, Figure 1).
5. Remove internal hex. socket oil pump mounting bolts (4 and 5, Figure 2).
Note:
Step 5 applies only to engines without front oil baffle.
6. Mount front oil baffle (7, Figure 3) using internal hex. socket bolts (4 and 5, Figure 2).
7. Slide rear oil baffle (8, Figure 3) under front oil baffle (7, Figure 3) and line up mounting holes. Insert and install mounting bolts.
8. Tighten all bolts. Adhere to tightening torques.
Tightening torque:
M6X16 mm bolt: 10 N-m.
M8X25 mm bolt: 25 N-m.
9. Reinstall oil pan (see SMS, Job No. 01-310A).
10. Fill engine with oil, run engine and check for leaks.
11. Check and correct oil level if necessary.
12. Apply white paint dot next to engine number.
