Warranty - Claim Process Fault Code Check-List

TO: OUR MERCEDES-BENZ PASSENGER CAR DEALERS

DATE: June 1992

REF. NO. 00/99

SUBJECT;
ALL MODELS
ON-BOARD DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEMS WITH MEMORY

Service Information MBNA 0046 of November 1991 indicated the need to list the Diagnostic Trouble Code (fault code) within the damage code. Reading out and listing all Diagnostic Trouble Codes in the workshop is required for the diagnosis of customer complaints. This is especially important in the case of systems that communicate with or exchange signals with each other. The attached Diagnostic Trouble Code check list should be used to assist in this task. After the repairs have been completed and the Diagnostic Trouble Codes erased, the check list should be attached to the work order so that it is available for reference when assigning damage code.

In case of running complaints on all engines with LH sequential multiport fuel injection, the Diagnostic Trouble Codes must be read out from the malfunction memories of all the control modules. (UH-SFI, EZL-ICM, Base module, Electronic Accelerator, or Idle Speed Control or Cruise Control).

Note
Virtually all systems are equipped with a control module having a malfunction memory. Thus, a control module returned under a warranty claim will only be accepted if the Diagnostic Trouble Code indicating a defective control module has been stored or if a written explanation is supplied. The reason for replacing the control module should be given in the dealer text section of the warranty claim and on the warranty return tag.

The "Diagnostic Trouble Code Checklist" (see illustrations) can be ordered via MB-Net using the order number LZS-2581-092.
