Warning and Function Indicator Lamps

Instrument Cluster:

The ASR warning lamp (A1e22) and the ABS warning lamp (A1e17) are in the lower right instrument cluster.

The ASR function lamp (A1e21) is in the speedometer just above the center of the odometer.

As a bulb test, all 3 lamps come on with the ignition key in position 2. If no malfunctions are stored in the system, the warning lamps and the function indicator lamp go out once the engine is running.

Warning lamp comes on when the engine is running:

If ASR warning lamp (A1e22) lights alone, a malfunction is stored in the ASR or electronic accelerator system. The ASR system turns off, and the ABS system remains completely operational. If a malfunction is in the electronic accelerator system, the driver can still operate the vehicle (with slightly reduced engine power) through the telescoping rod link. The accelerator pedal linkage operates in "limp-home" mode, but more pedal force is required to move the throttle.

If both the ASR and the ABS warning lamps (A1e22 and A1e17) come on, a malfunction in the ASR system influences the operation of the ABS. If there is a malfunction in the ABS system, both systems turn off.

The ASR function lamp (A1e21) dims whenever the driver turns on the headlamps or the parking lamps.
