Procedure
1. Disconnect the battery ground cable.2. Open hood and locate windshield/headlamp washer reservoir (4. Figure 1).
3. Remove any remaining washer fluid into a clean container so that it can be refilled later.
4. Remove knurled knob (1, Figure 1) and carefully pull washer fluid reservoir vertically from the mounting bracket (3, Figure 1). Do not remove either headlamp washer pump or disconnect the washer fluid hose at this time.
Note:
^ On some vehicles, the washer reservoir is mounted via a tapered mounting bracket only (not secured via knurled knob).
In these cases, carefully pull the washer reservoir vertically from the mounting bracket.
^ There are two washer pumps located on the washer reservoir. The headlamp washer pump should be located in the forward-most position in the washer reservoir (Figure 1).
5. Locate the headlamp washer pump by observing the routing of the washer fluid hoses. The washer fluid hose running to the headlamp unit verifies the headlamp washer pump. For further verification, note that the wiring harness for the headlamp washer pump is identified with a red band (Figure 1), located approximately 10 cm from the harness connector.
6. Disconnect the electrical harness from the headlamp washer pump.
7 Disconnect the headlamp washer fluid hose.
8. Carefully pull the headlamp washer pump vertically out of the large rubber mounting grommet mounted in the washer reservoir.
CAUTION!
Only the modified washer pump as noted in the Parts Information table below is to be installed on all vehicles as listed in the Effective Serial Number Range table. Verify modified headlamp washer pump by observing correct part number embossed on the pump housing.
9. Remove the large rubber grommet from the washer reservoir.
10. Prior to installing the modified headlamp washer pump, replace the large rubber grommet as removed in step 9.
11. Reinstallation is in reverse order.
12. Refill windshield/headlamp washer reservoir.
13. Reconnect battery ground cable.
14. Check function of washer system. Verify that the headlamp washer pump runs with the ignition ON, headlamps ON and upon activation of the washer switch.
15. Check and adjust as necessary, both headlamp wiper arms.
