Clutch Replacement
1. Disable airbag system, refer to Air Bags and Seat Belts/Air Bags (Supplemental Restraint Systems)/Service and Repair.2. Remove transmission assembly, refer to TRANSMISSION.
3. Loosen clutch pressure plate bolts 1 to 1-1/2 turns each until pressure plate is loose.
4. Remove retaining bolts completely, then the pressure plate and clutch disk.
5. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Check flywheel for any scoring, cracks and runout. Flywheel runout should not exceed 0.5 mm.
b. Check clutch thickness, a minimum of .10-.12 inch (2.6-3.0 mm) should be indicated.
c. Clean pressure plate and flywheel with coarse emery cloth.
d. Use a centering drift to center clutch disk.
e. Tighten pressure plate retaining bolts 1 to 1-1/2 turns until secure, then tighten to specifications.
