SUBJECT:
MODEL 140 BRAKE PULSATION/SQUEAL

As of August 1992, all model 140 vehicles are equipped with Jurid 226 front brake pads to improve braking performance and increase comfort. The Jurid 226 front brake pads may be installed on all model 140 vehicles equipped with 4-piston calipers. Included are models 140.032/134 (300SE/SD) which were converted to 4-piston calipers prior to the effective serial numbers below. All other model 140 vehicles were equipped with the 4-piston front calipers from start-of-production.

In cases of brake pulsation complaints, determine which brake pads are installed and proceed as follows:

If already equipped with Jurid 226 pads, clean (machine) or replace (if wear limit has been exceeded) front brake discs. Replace front brake pads (Jurid 226).

If not equipped with Jurid 226 pads, update brake system by installing Jurid 226 pads and replacing front brake discs.

WARNING!

Assume all brake dust contains asbestos and conduct brake repairs accordingly. Make certain that OSHA recommended control methods are utilized to minimize asbestos exposure to all personnel. (Refer to Standard Equipment Program Catalog for approved equipment.) DO NOT use compressed air blowing or dry brushing to clean brakes without a vacuum enclosure equipped with a High Efficiency Particulate Air (HEPA) filter. Dispose of waste materials in accordance with local, state and federal regulations.
