1. Remove carpeting from center console.2. Remove tape from fixed harness connector and plug-in handset cord connector to fixed connector (accessable through opening).
3. Place clips over front and rear screw hole locations on center console (you may have to remove some of the noise insulation from underneath the center console so that the rear clip will fit).
4. Attach handset cradle to handset bracket. Secure front of cradle to bracket with short screw.
5. Insert long screw into rear of cradle, place plastic spacer tube (arrow, Fig. 10) over long screw and hold in place with o-ring.
6. Place split grommet onto handset cord at the third coil. Slide grommet and cord into cutout on right side of handset bracket (split in grommet should face away from cutout).
7. Mount bracket with cradle to center console. The long screw from the cradle/bracket assembly should align with the front clip on the console and rear bracket mounting hole should align with rear clip. Before tightening down the assembly, ensure that the handset cord is guided through the cutout on the right side of the bracket and that the spacer remains in place.
8. Replace carpeting in center console. Front portion of carpeting will have to be removed (up to bottom of bracket bend). Place handset in cradle.
Perform the following on vehicles produced prior to October 1991.
9. Remove ashtray.
10. Remove radio.
11. If an intermediate 3-pole connector is installed between the vehicle harness and ashtray, reinstall ashtray.
If there is no intermediate connector locate the two 3-pole connectors behind the ashtray bracket and connect them between the ashtray and vehicle harness. Reinstall ashtray.
12. If a 1-pole connector is plugged into the rear of the radio, reinstall radio. If not, locate 1-pole connector taped to telephone harness and connect to 1-pin male connector on rear of radio. Reinstall radio.
