Immediate Measures to Prevent Wind Noise In Door Areas

During replacement of doors following painting and corrosion protection, the following additional work is to be performed. These work procedures may also be used in cases of wind noise complaints. In these cases, determine the vehicle areas from which the wind noise originates and repair accordingly. The following work procedures require removal of door trim (refer to SMS, Body - assembly jobs 1, Model 140, Group 72, Doors) before performing these procedures.

Front doors (with door trim removed)






1. Tape locating hole on rear window frame with waterproof body sealing tape, Figure 4.






2. Attach 60 mm long foam sealing strip part no. 140 682 06 30 in upper window frame position shown by arrow in Figure 5.






3. Attach black, 15 mm wide strip of waterproof body sealing tape along the entire length of the flange (arrows, Figure 6).






4. Attach foam sealing strip 1, part no. 140 725 04 98 to the window frame/mirror frame spaced equally to each side in area "a" (Figure 7). Position seal 2, part no. 140 725 07 98, against seal 1.






5. Attach molded rubber piece (arrow, Figure 8) before installation of window frame covering.

6. Replace window run channels with latest versions.
