Procedure
1. Remove front wheels.2. Clean bracket mounting surface with a scraper, removing any loose weld spots or other debris (crosshatched area, Figure 1).
3. Using the existing holes in the spring tower, attach drill template (080) to spring tower with the screws (081, 082), washers (083), and nuts provided (Figure 2). The top of the template is marked "TOP" and is indicated as "c" in Figure 2. Make sure to press the template against the longitudinal frame member (1, Figure 2) before tightening it.
Note:
The template is also marked for left and right installation. When attaching template to the left spring tower, the side marked "LEFT" should face towards the center of the vehicle. During a right-hand installation, the side marked "RIGHT" should face towards the center.
4. Using a right angle drill and a 4.0 mm drill bit, drill holes "L" for left-hand installation or "R" for right-hand installation (Figure 3).
Subsequently remove drill template.
5. Attach bracket (2b, Figure 4) to spring tower with rivets at bores 1 and 2 (Figures 5 - 6).
6. Drill two additional holes (3 and 4, Figures 5 - 6) using right angle drill and 4 mm bit. Insert rivets and fasten.
Spray bracket and spring tower (inside and outside) with MB Preservation Wax, part no. 000 986 33 70.
Left-hand installation of bracket with bores 1, 2, 3, 4.
Right-hand installation of bracket with bores 1, 2, 3, 4.
7. Engage vibration damper with rubber bushings (2) in bracket (2b). Insert screw (2d) from below and screw on nut (2e) until it seats (Figure 7).
8. Align vibration damper (2) so that its position is parallel with the axle carrier. If necessary, use a 13 mm spacer block (085) to assure correct position (Figure 8).
Tighten self-locking hex. nut (2e, Figure 7) to 20 N-m.
