Pressure Reservoir

Pressure Reservoir:

The pressure reservoir is located behind the inspection panel in the plastic cover under the left front tender.

ABS/ASR Hydraulic Unit/Pressure Reservoir:

For better work access, the hydraulic lines between the ABS/ASR hydraulic unit and the pressure reservoir are split with couplings (arrows) next to the damper strut tower.

Check for pressure reservoir connection leaks through the inspection slot in the wheel liner under the vehicle.

Pressure Reservoir:

The pressure reservoir is a piston-type reservoir.

The stored brake fluid volume reaches approx. 42 cc at 180 bar (2610 psi). The initial compressed nitrogen charge is approx. 100 bar (1450 psi).

The ASR return/pressure pump forces the brake fluid through the filter screen and check valve into the reservoir chamber. A line connects the stored brake fluid directly to the ABS/ASR hydraulic unit connection "E."

Passage (7) exists to convey any leakage (either of gas from the compressed nitrogen area, or brake fluid from the reservoir chamber) outside to the collector under the plastic cover. This prevents mixing of nitrogen and brake fluid.

Whenever the hydraulic system is bled, the double sealed piston must rest securely against the form-fitting bottom of the reservoir chamber. This way the brake fluid carries any residual air out through the bleed passage, directly to output port E and from there to the bleeder valve SP (For proper Bleeding Procedures Refer to MAINTENANCE PROCEDURES). The bleeder valve SP must be opened at least one turn for bleeding.
