Distributor: Description and Operation

Ignition Distributors (S5/5 And S5/6):

PURPOSE
The ignition distributor's only function is to conduct high voltage from the coil through the ignition rotor to the proper ignition wire located on the distributor.

Distributor Rotor (13):

CONSTRUCTION AND LOCATION
This engine uses two distributors (one for each cylinder bank). Each distributor consists of a resistor rotor (13), a distributor cap (15) and insulating cover (between the timing cover and ignition rotor). It is very flat and is mounted at the front of the engine. Each high tension terminal on the distributor cap incorporates a 1 kOhm suppression resistor. The rotor is mounted on an adaptor which is driven by the camshaft.
