DEFLECTOR FOR ENGINE HOOD SAFETY CATCH
General Information
With the introduction of deflector, part no. 202 887 02 45, the previous version 1 deflector, part no. 202 887 00 45, and version 2 deflector, part no. 202 887 01 45, are no longer available as replacement parts. Should either the version 1 or 2 deflector require replacement, the latest version may be installed by following the procedure described in this Service Information.
Version identification
Version 1
From start-of-production up to approx. 10/93
Deflector (A, Figures 1, 2), part no. 202 887 00 45, hooked and clipped to radiator crossmember (arrow, Figure 2).
Version 2
As of 11/93 to approx. 01/94
Deflector (B, Figures 3, 4), part no. 202 887 01 45, clipped to radiator crossmember and fastened with sheet metal screw (arrow, Figure 4).
Version 3 (latest version)
As of 02/94
Deflector (C, Figures 4, 5), part no. 202 887 02 45, with additional mounting hook (arrow, Figure 4) hooked and clipped to square hole in radiator crossmember (arrow, Figure 5).
Replacing Version 1 or 2 Deflector with Latest Version
Procedure for Version 1 (From start-of-production up to approx. 10/93)
1. Remove deflector.
2. Using a caliper, measure, mark (arrow, Figure 6) and center punch radiator crossmember according to dimensions specified in Figure 6.
3. Drill out center punched point (arrow, Figure 6) with 8 mm drill bit, remove burrs and paint with matching vehicle color.
4. Install deflector (C, Figure 4), part no. 202 887 02 45. Hook mounting hook into previously drilled 8 mm hole and clip in place.
Procedure for Version 2 (As of 11/93 to approx. 01/94)
1. Remove deflector.
2. Drill out existing 3.2 mm hole (arrow, Figure 7) in radiator crossmember with 8 mm drill bit. Remove burrs and paint with matching vehicle color.
3. Install deflector (C, Figure 4) part # 202 887 02 45. Hook mounting hook into bored out 8 mm hole and clip in place.
