In vehicles within the Effective Serial Number Range, the tilting brackets, bracket holders and guide plates must be replaced.This procedure must be performed during the vehicle's next scheduled maintenance or repair.
Procedure
1. Remove sliding. pop-up roof cover (SMS. Job No. 77-.20-0500E).
2. Remove sliding. pop-up roof panel (SMS. Job No. 77.20-1000E).
3. Remove interior rearview mirror.
4. Ensure that sliding pop-up roof is completely closed (activate switch until drive turns off).
5. Remove front dome lamp (SMS. Job No 82.20-0110E).
6. Remove sliding roof drive from frame (SMS. Job No. 77.20-1700-01E).
7. Remove water drain trough.
8. Loosen screws and remove sliding rails.
9. Remove left and right tilting brackets (1C) and bracket holders (9, Figure 1) (SMS, Job No. 77.20-1700-O2E).
10. Remove left and right guide plates (15, Figure 1).
11. Reinstall only modified version parts. Refer to the following figures for
correct identification of modified version parts (Figures 3 through 5).
Tilting bracket
Use modified version tilting bracket with code letter E (1, Figure 3).
Bracket holder
Use modified version bracket holder without roller (4, Figure 4).
Guide plate
Use modified version guide plate with code letter E (6, Figure 5).
12. Install modified guide plates.
13. Install modified tilting brackets and bracket holders (SMS, Job No. 77.20-
1700-03E).
14. Install sliding roof panel. Tighten bracket holders according to sequence
(1 - 8) in Figures 6 and 7. When tightening screws 1 - 4, press bracket holders
outward.
15. Continue installation in reverse order of removal.
16. Perform function check.
Note:
If the sliding roof binds during operation, reinstall and readjust sliding roof panel (step 14).
