A. Installation of Engine Block Heater 140.032 (300 SE)

1. Lift vehicle.

2. Remove front and rear encapsulation panel from below engine.

3. Drain engine coolant by first attaching a 14 mm inner diameter, 1500 mm long hose to the drain plug in the engine block and then loosening the plug. Drain coolant into a suitable container for reuse later.





4. Remove core plug (rear-most plug) with a 22 mm 6-point socket (arrow, Figure 1).

5. Install block heater (arrow) using rubber 0-ring from the installation kit and not the alloy washer supplied (Figure 2). Tighten block heater with a 46 mm socket.

Tightening torque: 70 N-m

6. Attach electrical cable to block heater.





7. Install heat shield over block heater (arrow, Figure 3). To do so, remove hex. socket screw used to attach cable clamp below block heater. Attach heat shield using new hex. socket screw and spring washer above block heater and old hex. socket screw, new spring washer and cable clamp below block heater. Insert the lower screw with spring washer through the cable clamp first, the heat shield second and then into the engine block.





8. Route cable away from exhaust manifold along transmission oil cooler line using cable ties (arrow, Figure 4).

9. Continue routing the cable, using cable ties, along the alternator wiring harness.

10. Open towing eye flap in bumper cover. Route cable forward through opening for towing eye flap.





11. Insert cable plug through slot in towing eye flap and reinstall towing eye flap in bumper cover (Figure 5).





12. The cable may now be easily accessed for winter use or alternately reinserted through the slot in the towing eye flap for storage when not needed (Figure 6).

13. Close coolant drain plug.

Tightening torque: 30 N-m

14. Reinstall encapsulation panels.

15. Test coolant for sufficient antifreeze protection, refill and bleed cooling system. Pressure test system for leaks.

16. Run engine. Check for proper coolant level.
