C. Install. of Electrical Cable & Heat Shield 140.134 (300SD)
As with previous diesel models, the block heater without electrical cable has been installed at the factory. The following procedure describes the installation of the electrical cable and heat shield for the block heater.1. Lift vehicle.
2. Remove front and rear encapsulation panel from below engine.
3. Attach electrical cable to block heater (arrow, Figure 12).
4. Install heat shield over block heater (arrow, Figure 13). To do so, remove hex. socket screw used to attach cable clamp below block heater. Attach heat shield using new hex. socket screw and spring washer above block heater and old hex. socket screw, new spring washer and cable clamp below block heater. Insert the lower screw with spring washer through the cable clamp first, the heat shield second and then into the engine block.
5. Route cable away from exhaust manifold along transmission oil cooler line using cable ties (Figure 14).
6. Continue routing the cable, using cable ties, along the alternator wiring harness.
7. Open towing eye flap in bumper cover. Route cable forward through opening for towing eye flap.
8. Using a cable tie, attach cable to lower A/C condenser hose.
9. Insert cable plug through slot in towing eye flap (Figure 15) and reinstall towing eye flap in bumper cover.
10. The cable may now be easily accessed for winter use or alternately reinserted through the slot in the towing eye flap for storage when not needed (Figure 16).
11. Reinstall encapsulation panels.

Owners of diesel models are entitled to free installation of the electrical cable/heat shield for a period of 12 months from original date-of-delivery.
