Interior - B-Pillar Coat Hook Installation

SUBSEQUENT INSTALLATION OF COAT HOOKS ON B-PILLAR






As of January 1993 production. coat hooks are installed on the B-pillar.

In case of customer requests. the coat hooks may be installed on earlier production vehicles according to the procedure described below. The installation is done at customer expense.

1. Remove B-pillar covering (SMS. Job no. 68-470).
2. Remove sliding trim panel for seat belt height adjuster from B-pillar cover. Rework top rear portion of B-pillar covering as per Figure 1.





3. Remove inner strengthening rib up to beginning of second strengthening rib on rear side of B-pillar cover.





4. Mark a reference line (use tape or a white grease pencil) across the top of the seat belt height adjuster opening.





5. Measure and mark hole locations on rear side of B-pillar as per Figure 4 (cover area with tape if grease pencil is not available).
6. Drill bottom mounting location using a a mm drill. Position mounting bracket on B-pillar to ensure upper mounting hole location. Drill upper hole using a 5 mm drill. Reinstall sliding trim panel for seat belt height adjuster.





7. Install retaining spring clip (1. Figure 5) on inside of B-pillar cover. Secure coat hook mounting bracket (2) to cover with screw (3). Ensure that the tab (arrow) on the bracket is inserted into lower mounting hole.





8. Slide coat hook (4. Figure 6) over bracket.
9. Reinstall B-pillar covering. Prior to replacing door seal over B-pillar cover. pull spring clip (1, figure 5) back and press onto B-pillar flange.
