REF.NO. MBNA 14/9

SUBJECT:
ENGINE 120 INSPECTION OF INTAKE MANIFOLD GASKETS

Intake Manifold Gasket:

When performing repairs which involve the removal/replacement of the intake manifold, the intake manifold gaskets must be inspected prior to reinstallation of the manifold. Two versions of intake manifold gaskets are used (Figure 1).

Depending on which version is installed, proceed as follows:

^ The previous version, part number 120 140 05 44, must be replaced with the modified version, part number 120 140 07 44, before reinstalling the intake manifold.

^ The modified version, part number 120 140 07 44, as installed in present production, must be inspected prior to installation of the intake manifold. The seal lip must be intact for proper sealing. If the seal lip is distorted, the intake manifold gasket must be replaced (Figures 2 and 3).

Intake pipe seal lip in proper condition (Figure 2).

Modified version intake manifold gasket seal lip in permanently distorted condition (Figure 3). Replacement with a new intake manifold gasket necessary.

Note:
With the modified version intake manifold gasket, part no. 120 140 07 44, no sealer is required for installation.
