INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS FOR CONVERSION FROM INTEGRATED ANTENNA SYSTEM TO TRI-BAND MAST ANTENNA
In the event it becomes necessary to convert the integrated antenna to a tri-band mast, please refer to the procedure below.
Procedure:
1. Remove the left rear trunk liner (SMS, Job No. 68-480), and the left interior C-pillar cover (SMS, Job No.68-449).
2. Disconnect the two coaxial cables (2, Figure 1) from the antenna amplifier (1) mounted on the left C-pillar, and connect the harness connectors together using the adaptor cable supplied in the conversion kit.
3. Install the "power/control" harness from the kit, routing the 1/4" flat connector to the C-pillar, and the opposite end to the mast antenna area in the trunk.
4. Disconnect the 1/4" harness connector (3, Figure 1) from the antenna amplifier, and connect the end of the "power/control" harness.
5. Disconnect and remove the mast antenna (1, Figure 2 [SMS, Job No. 82-8105]), and install a splitter (2, Figure 2 [part no. 140 820 18 89]) using the mounting hardware supplied in the kit. Connect a short coaxial cable (part no. 003 820 73 15) from the antenna mast to the splitter terminal marked "antenna" (3). Connect one end of the ground strap supplied with the kit to the antenna mast tube (4).
6. Disconnect the coaxial cable from the FM antenna amplifier, located in the left rear wheel well, and connect the cable to the splitter connector marked 'radio (5, Figure 2). Connect the antenna lead from the cellular telephone (if installed) to the splitter terminal marked "telephone".
7. Remove the locking strap from the 4-pole antenna harness connector (6, Figure 2), connect the single 2.5 mm terminal (without housing) of the "power/control" harness to terminal 4 of the antenna harness connector, and reinstall the locking strap.
8. Connect the single connector (with white housing) from the "power/control" harness to the splitter.
9. Reinstall the antenna, and reconnect the 4-pole harness connector (6, Figure 2). Connect the free end of the ground strap to the vehicle body, using the threaded hole near the antenna mast (7).
10. Test for proper function. The antenna mast should raise when the radio is ON and lower when turned OFF. Verify reception on AM, FM and Weatherband.
11. Reinstall the trunk liner and C-pillar cover.
