Distributor: Description and Operation
Distributor Cap Testing:
PURPOSE
The ignition distributor's only function is to conduct high voltage from the coil through the ignition rotor to the proper ignition wire located on the distributor.
CONSTRUCTION AND LOCATION
The distributor consists of a resistor rotor, a distributor cap and insulating cover (between the timing cover and ignition rotor). It is very flat and is mounted at the front of the engine. There is one distributor for each cylinder bank. Each high tension terminal on the distributor cap incorporates a 1 kOhm suppression resistor. The rotor is mounted on an adaptor which is driven by the camshaft.
