INSTALLATION OF BABYSMART(TM) AUTOMATIC CHILD SEAT RECOGNITION (ACSR)
The BabySmart(TM) ACSR may be installed in model 129 vehicles as of September 1995 up to model year 1997 (model year 1998 vehicles come with BabySmart(TM) ACSR as standard equipment), which are equipped with or without occupied seat recognition. The BabySmart(TM) ACSR prevents deployment of the passenger airbag when a BabySmart(TM) compatible child seat (which is equipped with two resonators) is installed in the vehicle.
The Work instructions no. 368 describes the installation of the BabySmart(TM) ACSR.
After completion of the installation, the customer must be made aware of the proper procedures and safety precautions involved with the use of a BabySmart(TM) compatible child seat. Included is a copy of the form (5-2692-097) which must be given to the owner of the vehicle in which the BabySmart(TM) ACSR was installed. The form may be ordered over MB-Net or copied directly from this Service Information. If the form is copied from this Service Information, the dealer must retain a signed copy for his records.
As a further precaution, a child protection label (literature no. S-2668-397) must also be affixed to the passenger door and on the cover of the Owners Manual, which also has safety warnings for proper use of the BabySmartTM compatible child seat (refer to Section D of the work instructions for proper installation procedure).
