REPLACEMENT OF SECONDARY HOOD LATCH HOOK ASSEMBLY





Effective Serial Number Range





On vehicles within the chassis end number range given in the table, a new secondary hood latch hook assembly - must be installed (secondary hood latch - old version, Figure 1).

Check A-pillar on the driver's side for recall campaign label. If a label is affixed with Recall Campaign number 96-0113, the repair was already performed.

Procedure





1. Remove retainer clip (arrow, Figure 2) from secondary hood latch hook and remove the hook release handle together with a tension spring. Save retainer, discard spring.

2. Remove eight screws holding the grille to the hood, and remove the grille.





3. Remove two bolts (arrows, Figure 3) and remove secondary hood latch hook assembly.





4. Install a new secondary hood latch hook assembly, part number 202 880 03 64 (Figure 4). Reinstall other components.

Note:
Do not paint the latch. Do not reinstall the tension spring, part number 202 887 06 79, on the secondary hood latch hook release handle.





5. After secondary hood latch hook replacement, assure that the hood properly locks. The main hood latch must engage when pressed down on the catch (with a screwdriver) to its lowest position (arrow, Figure 5). If this is not the case, loosen the main hood latch, the release cable, and retighten making sure assembly remains tension-tree.

6. Pull on the engine hood release lever to reset the main hood latch to the open position before closing hood. Close the hood and recheck for proper locking by pulling on the hood upwards. Recheck also, for the proper functioning of the hood secondary latch.

7. Enter Recall Campaign number and your dealer code on the campaign label, and affix it to the driver's side A-pillar near the door hinge. A campaign label will be supplied with each part.
