INTERMITTENT POWER ANTENNA OPERATION

In the event of intermittent power antenna operation in the vehicles listed above, install a capacitor (which will dampen voltage spikes when the antenna is retracting), as described in the following procedure.

Procedure:

1. Model 210, remove rear seat and remove fuse 15 from fuse box (F4).
Model 202, remove trunk floor cover and fuse 4 from fuse box (F4).

2. Remove left inner trunk liner.

3. Remove 4-pole connector from power antenna.

4. Remove terminal retaining clip from connector. Remove brown wire (pin 1 [negative]) and red wire (pin 3 [positive]) from connector using terminal release (special tool 210 589 02 33 00 (shipped to all dealers in recent tool shipment).

5. Using a small alligator clip, hold capacitor lead to wire, placing lead from capacitor on crimped portion of terminal end. Using rosin core solder, solder capacitor lead to terminal end.

CAUTION!
Ensure proper capacitor polarity when soldering capacitor to connector wires! The negative capacitor lead is marked with a stripe and must be soldered to the brown wire. The positive capacitor lead, which is unmarked, is soldered to the red wire.

Note:
The alligator clip also serves as a heat sink.

6. Place a small piece of heat shrink tube over exposed wire and leads from capacitor.

7. Reinstallation is reverse order of removal.

8. Test antenna for proper operation.
