DISASSEMBLY/ASSEMBLY OF REAR INTERIOR DOOR PANELS
Following are disassembly and assembly procedures for rear interior door panels only, on model 202.
Rear interior door panel disassembly procedure
1. Remove rear interior door panel (see SMS, Repair Instructions, Job No. AR72.70-1010E, Rear interior door panel).
2. Carefully place removed rear interior door panel onto a suitable clean surface to avoid soiling or damaging the door panel. Place door panel face down.
3. Remove wood trim locks (3, Figure 1) from back of door panel, and then remove wood trim from rear interior door panel.
4. Using cutting pliers or a 5/8 inch chisel and hammer, carefully remove the rounded portion (arrow) of the white plastic mounting studs (5, Figure 1) of the armrest. Gently pull on armrest and carefully remove from door panel. Since the white plastic mounting studs are relatively soft, do not use a drill to remove the rounded portion. The sharp drill bit will penetrate the white plastic too deeply, making reuse of the armrest difficult.
5. Using a 10 mm drill bit remove the rounded portion (arrow) of the black plastic mounting studs (7, Figure 1) of the door pocket. Gently pull on the door pocket and carefully remove from interior door panel.
! CAUTION!
Always wear eye protection when removing the rounded portion of the plastic mounting studs. Use extra caution when removing the rounded portion of the plastic mounting studs, so that only the rounded portion is removed and the surrounding area of the interior door panel is not damaged. If the armrest and door pocket are to be reinstalled, carefully trim plastic mounting studs and the appropriate bores in the interior door panel for a clean/proper fit during reassembly onto the interior door panel.
Rear interior door panel assembly procedure
6. Temporarily insert armrest and door pocket into door panel. Using cutting pliers trim off any excess length of the white/black plastic mounting stud, which protrudes beyond the thickness of the interior door panel. The ends of all the white/black plastic mounting studs are to be flush with the back side of the interior door panel (arrow, enlargement, Figure 2).
7. Place washer, part number N 000125 005312 (21), over one of the white/black plastic mounting studs. Insert screw, part number N 914138 004000 (21) into existing bore of the white/black plastic mounting studs and carefully tighten as necessary (enlargement, Figure 2).
8. Install the rest of the washers and screws to secure the armrest and door pocket to door panel.
9. Insert wood trim (2, Figure 2) into interior door panel as necessary and secure using wood trim locks (3, Figure 1).
Note
Replace any damaged wood trim locks with new ones.
10. Install reassembled rear interior door panel onto door (see SMS, Repair Instructions, Job No. AR72.70-1010E, Rear interior door panel).
