Babysmart(TM) Automatic Child Restraint Airbag Deactivation System Notice

Dear Mercedes Benz Owner:

In response to your request, your vehicle is now equipped with the BabySmart(TM) Automatic Child Restraint Airbag Deactivation System. This system will deactivate the passenger front air bag when a BabySmart(TM) compatible child seat is properly installed in the front passenger seat of your vehicle. Please read and follow the warnings as described below:

WARNING!
USE CHILD RESTRAINTS PROPERLY.

Children under 13 years old must never ride in this vehicle except in a Mercedes-Benz authorized BabySmart(TM) compatible child seat. According to Federal Government statistics released October 3, 1996; unless it is deactivated, an inflating front airbag poses a risk of death or serious injury to children under 13 years old.

Infants and children under 13 years old must be seated in a Mercedes-Benz authorized BabySmart(TM) compatible child seat, appropriate for your child's size; which is properly secured with the vehicle's seat belt, in full accordance with the seat manufacturer's instructions. That seat, when properly installed will turn off the front passenger air bag.

Risk to children of serious or fatal injuries is significantly increased even if the airbag is deactivated, if the Mercedes-Benz BabySmart(TM) compatible child seat is not properly secured in the vehicle and the child is not properly secured in the BabySmart(TM) compatible child seat.

To protect your child to the greatest extent possible, you must ensure that the passenger seat is adjusted as far rearward as possible from the dashboard when the seat is occupied.

WARNING!
The BabySmart(TM) Automatic Child Restraint Airbag Deactivation System will only work with a BabySmart(TM) compatible child seat. It will not work with child seats which are not BabySmart(TM) compatible.

Never place anything between the seat cushion and the Babysmart(TM) compatible child seat (e.g. a pillow), since it may interfere with the deactivation system.

Follow the manufacturer's instructions for installation of the BabySmart(TM) compatible child seat.
