SUBJECT:
MODEL 129
WATER ENTERS IN AREA OF EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR
INTERIOR TRIANGLE

In case of customer complaints of water entry at the exterior rear view mirror interior triangle trim piece, install an additional rubber seal onto the triangle trim piece.

Procedure

Note:
Rubber seals are marked left and right.

1. Using a plastic wedge, carefully pry and lift away the triangle trim piece (arrow, Figure 2).

! CAUTION!
Insert plastic wedge close to location of the mounting pin to avoid bending triangle trim piece. Pry in direction of arrow only. Do not pry and lift on bottom of trim piece, as this will break mounting feet (dashes).

Replace white plastic mounting pin insert in door frame to ensure tight fit of mounting pin when reinstalling the triangle trim piece.

2. Temporarily slide rubber seal (2, Figure 3) in direction of (arrow) over triangle trim piece. Carefully mark (dashes) the foam insert (3, Figure 3) along the rubber seal and then trim foam insert to size using a pair of scissors.

Note:
There should be no foam between the rubber seal and the triangle trim piece, trim accordingly.

3. Lubricate rubber seal with soapy water before sliding rubber seal over the triangle trim piece (1, Figure 4) from top corner down (arrow). Make sure the rubber seal fits properly into the recesses in the triangle trim piece (1, Figure 4). Carefully press foam insert (as trimmed in step 3) onto the triangle trim piece. (1, Figure 4)

4. Temporarily place triangle trim piece onto the door frame and note that the water drain (2a) of the rubber seal is to extend down into the door frame at the inner door seal. Using a sharp utility knife, carefully cutaway just enough of the inner door seal (arrow, Figure 5) to allow the water drain (2a) of the rubber seal to be inserted tightly.

! CAUTION!
Some vehicles may not require cutting of the inner door seal, therefore always check by placing the triangle trim piece in place before cutting the inner door seal.

5. Install the triangle trim piece, making certain that the water drain (2a) of rubber seal is inserted into the previously cut passage (arrow, Figure 6) of the inner door seal. Please note that rubber seal (2, Figure 6) is to fit along side the door seal (3, Figure 6) and over the felt window channel seal.

6. Operate window to determine proper seating of the rubber seal (2, Figure 6), especially in the window channel area.

Note
The triangle trim piece may have to be replaced, if the triangle trim piece does not remain secure with a new mounting pin insert installed (step 1).
