TO: ALL MERCEDES-BENZ PASSENGER CAR DEALERS

DATE: June 1996

SUBJECT:
MODELS 124, 129, 140, 202 AND 210 LUBRICATING HOOD LATCHES AND HINGES

On the above-mentioned models, the engine hood hinges and latches should be lubricated whenever the vehicle receives a maintenance or lubrication service. Subsequently, a check for free movement of the hood latch safety hook should be performed.

According to the latest edition of the Maintenance System sheet, S-2374-95K, Job no. 8821, lubrication of the hood hinges and latches is performed every 15,000 miles or every 2 years as part of the Maintenance Service. As a new requirement, this operation should now be performed every 7,500 miles or once a year as part of the vehicles every maintenance or lubrication service.

This maintenance operation interval change should be observed and expedited immediately. This revision will be reflected in respective technical publications in future updates. Refer to the Factory Approved Service Products booklet for proper lubricant.
