TIRE MOUNTING/DEMOUNTING PROCEDURE FOR SPORT PACKAGE WHEEL

Please note that the new thin-spoke AMG monoblock 18" alloy wheel (Figure 1), for MY 1999 SL-Class sport package vehicles, requires special tire mounting and demounting procedures. The tire must only be mounted and demounted over the BACK flange of the wheel rim. Mounting or demounting the tire over the front flange will cause tire/rim failure. Please make sure all your technicians read this bulletin, and provide a copy to all tire sublet/retailers with whom you deal.

DANGER!
MOUNTING AND DEMOUNTING THE TIRE OVER THE FRONT FLANGE OF THE WHEEL RIM WILL CAUSE WHEEL AND TIRE FAILURE RESULTING IN SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH TO THE WHEEL TECHNICIAN.

To ensure awareness, three warning labels have been affixed to the wheel (Figure 2, A, B, C). An embossed warning message also appears on the back side of the wheel spokes (Figure 2, D). Below are the embossed warning and warning label messages as they appear at their respective locations on the wheel in accordance with Figure 2. Under no circumstances may these labels be removed. Should you encounter the above described wheel without these warning labels, please notify your Market Team immediately.

Warnings on this subject also appear in the 1999 SL-Class Owner's Manual and sales brochure.
