Removal and Replacement
For features, refer to installation survey for rear axle center assemblies, rear axle center assembly with 185 mm dia. crown wheel, refer to Application and ID
REMOVAL
1. Drain rear axle oil
2. Remove propeller shaft intermediate bearing (106a)
3. Disconnect propeller shaft (106) at rear axle center assembly
WARNING
^ Risk of fatal injury due to vehicle slipping off or tilting on the hoist
^ Align vehicle between the pillars of the hoist and position the four support plates at the hoist mounting points specified by the vehicle manufacturer
4. Remove rear axle shafts (37) at connecting flange
5. Move rear axle shaft to approximately horizontal position and push together, then tie rear axle shaft to rear axle carrier
6. Using assembly frame tool No. 140 589 01 62 00, or equivalent, support rear axle center assembly (50)
7. Unscrew center assembly (differential) mounting bolts (50a)
8. Remove front center assembly (differential) suspension
9. Remove rear axle center (differential) assembly (50)
INSTALLATION
- Install in reverse order, noting the following information:
- Replace self-Locking bolts and nuts
- Replace rear axle vent, tighten to: 30 Nm
- Replace axle shaft (37) to flange self-locking multipoint or hexagon Allen bolts and washers
- Tighten to: 70 Nm
- Lightly lubricate threads of bolts and underside of bolt heads
- Install front center assembly suspension as follows:
a. Install rubber mount (60b) and short 14 mm disk (60a) at top in rear axle carrier (1).
b. Install rubber mount with guide collar (60c) and long 17 mm disk (60d) at bottom.
- Ensure that the bearing is properly seated.
c. Install assigned shim (60e) between disk (60d) and rear axle center assembly (50).
d. Replace self-locking hexagon nut (52) and install rear axle center assembly (50) on rear axle carrier (1).
- Tighten the following components as noted:
- Self-locking nut, rear axle center assembly at front to rear axle carrier: 45 Nm
- Self-locking bolt, rear axle center assembly at rear to rear axle carrier: 110 Nm
- Self-locking hexagon nut, flexible disk to rear propeller shaft or rear axle center assembly: 30 Nm
- Fill rear axle center assembly with: 1.1 Liters of suitable rear axle fluid
