RELOCATING FRONT PASSENGER SEAT OCCUPIED SENSOR (B48)
1. Remove right front passenger seat cushion. Refer to jobs RA 91-110 and RA 91-114. in WIS.
2. Remove seat cover. Refer to jobs RA 91-180 and AR 91.60-P-0720D in WIS.
3. Separate the rubberized fiber mat with foam pad from the rest of the seat cushion.
4. Place the rubberized fiber mat with foam pad on a flat surface (Figure 1).
5. Lift the center section of the foam pad (arrow, Figure 1) to obtain access to the seat sensor assembly (B48).
6. The printed circuit of the sensor rests on the rubberized fiber mat under the foam pad. A cutout in the rubberized fiber mat accommodates the sensor box (arrow, Figure 2).
7. Carefully lift the entire sensor assembly (Figure 3), pull the wiring with the connector through the hole in the rubberized fiber mat and set sensor assembly aside.
8. With a razor blade or a sharp knife, carefully cut a section equal in size to the sensor box, in the front, bulge part of the rubberized fiber mat. The new cut-out should be directly in front of the old one (Figure 4). The cut segment of the mat will be reused to fill up the space of original sensor box recess.
9. Place the sensor assembly upside down on a flat surface. Apply felt onto sensor box and over approx. 1.5" on the printed circuit coming out of the box (Figure 5).
Note:
The felt would be on the under side of the sensor box in its original position.
10. To protect printed circuit from damage, glue a piece of rubber hose (approx. 1.5 " long and 1/4" to 3/8" in dia) as shown by arrow in Figure 5.
Note:
Portion of the printed circuit extending from the sensor rigid box will be bent in its final position.
11. Place the previously cut segment of the mat in the original sensor box recess. Carefully place the sensor assembly on the rubberized fiber mat of the seat cushion. Insert sensor connector with wiring through the hole in the mat and pull it from underneath. Flip the sensor box upside- down, and place it in the new cut place in the mat (Figure 6).
Note:
Enlarge the recess in the rubberized fiber mat, if necessary.
Note:
Make sure the printed circuit is not kinked and rests freely on the rubberized fiber mat (Figure 7).
12. Cover the the sensor assembly with foam pad.
13. Reinstall seat cushion cover in reverse order - refer to step 2.
14. Reinstall seat cushion and entire seat into vehicle - refer to step 1.
15. Check seat heating and electrical adjustment functions.
Check seat occupied sensor indicator light located on center console. It should go oft approx. 3 to 6 sec. after the ignition key is turned to position 1. With Mercedes-Benz authorized BabySmart(TM) compatible child seat properly installed in the front passenger seat, the indicator light will be illuminated except with ignition key removed or in steering lock position 0.
