Knee Diverter: Description and Operation

Driver's/Front Passenger's Airbag:





The energy-absorbing covers (6 & 8) are located on the driver's and front passenger's side (if equipped with passenger airbag) under the dashboard.

Driver's Side:

Passenger's Side:

Purpose: In combination with the driver and passenger airbags and emergency tensioning retractors, the coverings increase the safety of the front seat occupants in medium and severe accidents.

Design: The energy absorbing coverings consist of a sheet metal panel with hard foam filling. The visible surface of the sheet metal panels are covered with a plastic covering. A foam insert in th plastic covering makes the surface resilient.

Function: The energy absorbing coverings have a deforming hard foam filling for protection of the passenger's legs and knees in the event of a head-on collision.
