MODEL 210 SEDAN, MODEL YEAR 1999 CURTAIN (WINDOW) AIRBAG FASTENING CLAMP

A. Inspection of curtain (window) airbag fastening clamps (right and left curtain [window] airbags)
B. Replacement of curtain (window) airbag(s)

Shown is a sample copy of a letter which will be mailed in the near future to all clients of vehicles within the Effective Serial Number Range listed.

This campaign has been initiated because DBAG has determined that the curtain (window) airbag fastening clamp (located at the top of the gas generator), which secures the airbag to the gas generator (refer to work instructions), may be either the wrong size (too large in diameter) or incorrectly installed. If the clamp is incorrect (in size or installation), deployment gas may escape, which may prevent the airbag from fully deploying in a side impact collision.

The fastening clamp securing the airbag to the gas generator must be inspected and if the clamp is either too large or incorrectly installed, the curtain (window) airbag (gas generator and airbag unit) must be replaced.

The 4,163 affected vehicles are within the chassis end number range shown.

1) Due to the preparation for the year 2000, the structure of the campaign number begins with the 4 digit calender year. Until the new VMI is in place, the old format campaign number is: 98-0923.
