Front Axle/Rear Axle Brake Proportion
To reduce thermal load and wear on the front brakes, the proportion of braking done at the rear axle was considerably increased. The front axle/rear axle brake proportion ratio is 63:37, or 72:28 in the event of an ABS malfunction. To assure vehicle stability while braking, ABS activation at the rear axle occurs sooner than at the front axle.

The change in front axle/rear axle brake proportion is accomplished by means of a newly developed switchable tandem master brake cylinder.

To limit rear wheel braking at high speeds in curves, or in the event of an ABS malfunction, a switchover valve on the master brake cylinder switches the system to conventional brake proportion.
